How to become a Perinatal or neonatal nurse?

Im looking to go into Perinatal or Neonatal Nursing but im not sure how to go about it, Im in school now going for my associates RN but im just not sure what the steps are after i obtain that. Also, Im not sure what schools even offer the program in the northeast region. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. All you need to do is get your degree in nursing (ASN or BSN), pass your state boards, and apply for a job in OB or NICU. No further degree is needed to be a Labor and Delivery, OB, or NICU nurse. After you have worked several years, specific nursing organizations (AWHONN for the area you are looking into) have steps to becoming "certified" in your area of specialty. Best wishes!
